[Date Prev][Date Next][Thread Prev][Thread Next][Date Index][Thread Index] S3 Air Cond
-- [ From: Tom Graham * EMC.Ver #2.3 ] -- 'Morning Chaps- My 1984 S3 air conditioning system is leaking Freon too much (about 30 ounces a year). I suspect the compressor 'cause it has an "oil slick" on it. I don't mind putting in a "new" compressor, doesn't cost all that much for a REBUILT one. BUT I do worry about rebuilt things after many bad experiences with alternators, water, and power steering pumps on my American cars. (Yes, I know the Jag compressor is a GM unit, all the more reason to worry). Then my brother tells me that GM in the mid 1980's made compressors with teflon vane seals(?) that were not worth a tinkers dam. So, now I'm doubly worried. Yeah, I know the rebuilt units are "guaranteed" but will the guarantee also replace the Freon that would be lost???? I would be most comfortable with a GM new factory unit-but- haven't priced those. Anyway, any suggestions welcome, thanks. Cherio - Tom
