[Date Prev][Date Next][Thread Prev][Thread Next][Date Index][Thread Index] Hot starting problem, the final catch 22
The facts are all in, now for the solution. There is no retained pressure in the injectors. I have turned the vehicle almost upside down and can't find the non-return valve. Is it in fuel pump? If not has to be under the vehicle. None of the other places mentioned in the manual are valid. When cranked cold, the fuel pump comes on with the starter motor. When hot the fuel pump does not start till the engine fires, the manual says that is to prevent overloading if there is a stuck injector. There is the catch 22. No pressure to pump gas into the injectors, no start. No start no fuel pump (unless cold). So until I get pressure holding in the injector rail when the thing has been parked, I have to fool it to get the pump running (read keep trying to start it in short bursts). Now does that sound like the problem one of us has had with the car not starting at all? If the cold start circuit doesn't work and there is no pressure held in the fuel rail the odds of it starting at all are pretty well zero! BTW, this is a series 3, manufactured late 1979, sold as an 1980. Tom, who now has a shiny new fuel pressure guage mounted under the hood... Follow-Ups:
