Back about 20 years ago when I did my first restoration I saw an XK type that the fellow in the body shop had had professionally louvered. It really looked nice, slots all nice and even, lined up, looked just factory. If one really has one's heart set on this type of thing why not go to boneyard and buy a hood, have it professionally louvered and painted (painting optional if you get a really cheap hood..). If it works and you like it keep it, if not you still have the original hood to put back on. Would cost a few bucks, but it just might do the job. Personally I have been told not to worry about the engine heat, but was told to be sure I had a pad in place. The only damage the hot engine compartment does is much up the paint job if you don't have an engine pad, otherwise they run hot. Tom, still playing find the leaking injector... in British Columbia.
