Is there a way to check > without removing the thermo? one quick way is to start the engine after it has dropped to ambient temperature, the upper hose which feeds the hot coolant from the engine _into_ the radiator will get hot first the lower hose which feeds coolant back into the engine will get hot after that. If the thermostat is working the hose will get hot rather quickly just after the thermostat opens.
