Alternator 88 XJ-S

Well, I did get the tests done, my battery is fine, & the problem looks like
the voltage regulator is going out, & the alternator may not be pumping out
what it should ( 44 amps, but then again it depends on what the car &
testing equipment was demanding at that moment ). Called my local Jaguar
dealer & they do not sell the voltage regulator separate. I do have a few
good recommendations on where to have it re-built & was given a caution
about the "chain" stores rebuilding. I was informed that some places that
do the re-building for the chain stores, may do a quick diagnose, correct
the problem, clean up the unit & give you a lifetime warranty that you WILL
be using after something else fails that was never replaced, in other words,
not a complete rebuild. ( food for thought )
If I do decide to go with a "new" unit, I will go with the Bosch 115 Amp.
Here are the low prices I was quoted ( all US Dollars )
Dealer - $258.75
Checker Auto Parts - $133.50 Bosch 115 AMP or $91.00 for a Lucas 75 AMP
Lakewood Auto Electric - $300 for a complete rebuild & system check out (
the place I was referred to )

I also checked on the Alternator Dump Module listed in Kirby's book (P.113)
as a fix for the 115 AMP alternator to function properly at idle ( described
in his book ). My local dealer wants $161.75. Just an FYI.

At least it has not failed yet, just not quite keeping up with the demand.
 Glad I have a good battery & a charger at home ;-)
