You neglect the fact that the underhood environment experiences 
dynamic pressure from the air entering via the grill thus 
experienceing more than 1 atmosphere pressure.  I am surprised that 
even an expert such as yourself doesn't realize that.

Kirby is and engineer, I am too,  and so are many of us on this list.
