Hi Martin, >Where are all the restorers of older saloons - have they gone off to another >list (oops) ? There are quite a few Mk1/2/D2.5 and S-type owners here who will respond if you post questions! > I'm one month into a two year restoration plan. About five years to go then :-) If you've got the time, the space and the right equipment I don't think you're mad at all. But only do it if you mean to keep the car - S-types don't fetch as much as Mk2s, and some parts are going to be more pricey or harder to obtain. Can't help with painting - but keep us posted! Check the wing price with Robey and D.Manners. I've read that it's much better to repair the existing wings than fit new - repair sections are available. Get some books - eg Practical Classics Mk2 restoration. The loops on the engine are strong! I had the same question a while ago, and was told they were ok to use: they were. Ryan Border and others advised me to take the engine out from under the car rather than out the top. I did, and they were right. I wouldn't even think of doing it the other way now! Are you a member of the JEC? I recommend it, if only for the ads in the magazine. Cheers, Ted 1966 3.4 Mk2 2.5 years into 6 week clutch replacement plan. Two weeks to go. ejt@wg.icl.co.uk
