Windscreen ScrewsHi to all, I hope that someone out there is going to be able to help me on the following on a 140 OTS First, can someone cofirm that the machine screws used to bolt the wind screen asembly together are #8 32 TPI with an undersized #6 oval head. Theses should be either chromed or polished ss and for flat screwdiver not Phillips. If above spec is correct does anyone know were I can get them. I have tried XK Unlimited, Guy Broad and British Auto and none of them have them. I have tried a few yachting type suppliers and they have the correct screw except with standard size head. I have found a supplier in Chesapeake Virginia who said he may be able to get some made for me but there would be a minimum order which will be far in excess of the 8 or 10 that I need. Is anyone else in need of these and would be intersted in buying some from me if I have to make a special order. There are 2 machine screws on each side of windscreen that hold hooks for securing soft top. I think these # 10 screws with 32 TPI with undersized #8 oval head. Can someone who knows these things confirm that I have it correct. I have the same questions. Where can I get a few of these and would anyone else like some if I make a special order. - Neville Laing Neville: The screws you are looking for are available in stainless at, MSC, PO Box 13334, Pittsburgh, PA 15243. 1-800-359-7166. I have used them for many difficult to find sizes. At worst you may have to grind the heads down a bit to match the smaller British size. There's enough material to work with to deepen the slot and polish them up to look just like chrome. They are also the source for just about every spring in an XK, all done in stainless. - Good Luck, Dick Cavicke Neville asked 23 MAy about 140 windscreen frame screws. Neville, I cannot answer your question. I can provide some background that might lead you closer to an answer. First, the 120 and 140 windscreens were basically the same, but the screws differed in some cases in detail. Second, the details are as follows: Screws for securing windscreens to side pillars - XK120 and XK140: C 2015/9 x 2 set screws securing windscreen to side pillars; C 2015/10 x 2 ditto ditto Screws for attaching hooks: XK120 --C 2015/5 x 3 securing hook to centre pillar as for XK140. BD 3539/1 x 4 (note different part no. from the 140). XK140 --C 2015/5 x 1 securing hook to centre pillar. D 3539/2 x 4 securing hooks to side pillars. So you can see what on a 120 you could compare them with. Sadly, the part nos. indicate that these were special and not standard products, so we cannot use the coding to find out anything. Rob Reilly commented a while back: " Unfortunately there are many bolts not in this list for which the part no. is of the format C.####. These are specials that were made especially for Jaguar or were modified by Jaguar from a standard bolt. Putting a hole through a bolt for a split pin would be an example. To determine if any of these were hardened or HTS bolts we would have to check them individually." I can add with a fair bit of confidence that these parts were note used anywhere else on any XK. - Regards, John Elmgreen
