Windscreen LogosNow, here's a bit of minutiae. I am going to order new windshields for my 120 from O.E.M. Glass in Bloomington IL (@$72) and pick them up at Spring Carlisle. O.E.M. will manufacture these with the original Triplex logo etched into them. The two or three XK120 or XK140 roadsters I have seen with originial windshields in place seem to have the logos etched in only one place, regardless of whether it is a RHS or LHS windshield. Looking at the LHS windshield from the front of the car, for example, the logo is etched on the interior side of the glass in the upper corner nearest the center post. Looking at its opposite number, the logo is also in the upper corner nearest the center post, only it is reversed and etched on the exterior of the glass - a mirror image. Was there only one windshield pattern that was used ambidexterously, or were there two distinct windshields for left and right hand sides? - Nick Saltarelli, 1954 XK120SE OTS, 1968 E-type OTS All XK Jaguars were fitted with Triplex glass and there are Triplex logos etched into the windshields and door glass of these cars. My original question was about the situation of these logos on XK120/140 roadsters. The logos are found etched into the upper inside corner of each windshield nearest the center post. It would appear that the logos are etched on the outside of the glass and are readable as such, appearing in the reverse image from the inside of the car. XK120/140 windshields are available, with Triplex logo, from OEM Glass in Bloomington IL for about @ $72, although you can apparently get the same item, without logo, for about $40 from an automotive glass shop. Welcome to the group. - Nick Saltarelli just to confuse things, I checked my '55 140 and.... Left glass..."Triplex Plate" logo at top near center post, etched on the outside and readable from the inside. Right glass...all I could find were the letters "SAFET" disappearing under the rubber at the lower right corner at the turn of the glass. This was etched on the inside, readable from the inside. New thread. - Jim Warren Thanks, James - On receipt of your e-mail (below) I consulted my collection of photographs and found that the presentation you describe is actually what I have recorded - LHS windshield with logo on the outside of the glass readable from the inside. My earlier description was off course. Could it be your RHS windshield is a replacement? - Nick Saltarelli Just to draw this thread to a close, when I ordered my windshields a few days ago, Rick at OEM Glass informed me, based on the several orders for XK120/140 windshield pairs OEM have taken, that the "correct" configuration for the logo has it etched on the inside of the glass and readable from the outside. There are, in addition, individual LHS and RHS windshields. Perhaps something for the ultra minutiae chapter of your book, John. - Nick Saltarelli, 1954 XK120SE OTS, 1968 E-type OTS
