XK150 Rack and pinion

XK150 Steering Rack Swap

Someone please help! Is there any rack and pinion from another Jag or car
that fits the XK150? - Mike Hafner

Mike: Is that you don't want to use an original rack or is it that yours in
beyond repair and you are unable to locate a replacement? I am sure a
proper rack could be located here. (US of A) - Bruce Baysinger

I have seen Triumph 2500 racks, both manual and power assisted fitted to
XK140s, so they should also fit the XK150. If you need the info, I can ask
the man who did the conversions what difficulties were involved. He does
LHD to RHD conversions, and has even used a Triumph rack in a Ferrari
308GTS. Note that an XK150 rack can (unlike most) be easily converted from
LHD to RHD with (I believe) no machining required. I don't know about your
country but the Triumph racks are plentiful and cheap here and in the UK. -
regards, Mike Morrin

As a suggestion, if you acquire a used unit or rebuild your existing
system, inspect the rack shaft and pinion gear to ensure no excessive wear
exists. Bearings and bushings are readily available but you won't restore
the precise feeling if the mesh of the rack and pinion is worn badly. XKs
Unlimited offers a pricey rack and pinion set if needed. Good luck. - Bob
Oates

Mike, I note that a UK company, SNG Barratts offer a '150/140 power
steering conversion. I believe they use a modified Triumph rack. The major
disadvantage seems the use of a two belt system but I imagime this could be
overcome by using a MK2 dyno-pump or a Ford Transit alternator-pump. If
Barratts' number is required I will be happy to supply it. - Roger Learmonth
