Spark Plug ConnectorsHi to all, Recently Welsh Jaguar ran an advert for the correct spark plug connectors for XK's, the straight type, no 90 degree bend in it. I payed my $28 for six, however I am supprised at how short the connectors are. They are not much more than an inch long. I was expecting something about 2.5 inches long. I looked at pictures in Original XK but it is not clear how long they were. This a pretty minor point but can any of the Concours judges comment on it. Thanks, Neville Laing Neville: I measured a couple original connectors at 1-7/16". 2.5" would definitely be too long. There are also two types of wire connectors: - Most common, I believe, is the one with a brass wood-type screw which threads into the center of the plug wire. - On a second variety, the plug wire insulation must be stripped back a bit and the bare wire is then secured by a set screw in the side of the connector. Can anyone comment on whether the set-screw type connector was originally associated with racing applications? - Dick Cavicke Hi Neville Laing & all -- I saw Welsh's mailer and ordered them for my Mk IX -- they came today, and are correct shape and length -- BUT they have a red "insert" saying CHAMPION twice around the upper part where the originals had CHAMPION engraved in black (Bakelite) -- I took a red ring off, a 1/16" depression, and NO CHAMPION (or any other lettering) -- so they're NOT the correct ones, especially if you're showing in JCNA concours. I'm staying with my bakelite originals, v. hard to find now, rather than suffer a .1 point loss (x 6) for red that was never there! - Larry Martz Hi Larry and Dick. The plug connectors I got also have the red "Champion" on them and they are 1 and 7/16 in length. So other than the color they must be pretty close to original. Thanks for the information. - Neville Laing. Mine are 1-7/16" long, but have no markings at all. - Rob Reilly I have never had a concours judge comment about the length of the connector, but I have been complemented on the uniformity of the wire length. - Larry J, 660636
