Mark VII Manifolds

Mark VII Manifolds

I have a question concerning exhaust manifolds. As it turned out today both manifolds on my MkVII were cracked... Considering the expense of getting them welded I'm looking for second hand replacements. So, are these unique to the MkVII or would it be possible to fit manifolds from for example a XJ6 S1? - Jens Tornblad 1954 MkVII

I know Jaguar Heavan has lots of MKVII exhaust manifolds, and they'll guarantee them crack free. Cheap? Don't know. Their number is 209-942-4524. - Chris Jerbic

Jens, they are not unique to Mk7, I know 120 is the same, and I think most other models from the 50's are the same. Look for the casting numbers on the back side, which should be C2213 and C2214. The other good news is Mk7's are not rare, so these should be readily available from any of the major used parts suppliers. There were some minor changes in the appearance, notably the downpipe flanges had a distinct 45 degree bevel on some, where others had a rounded shape, so you might try to get a matching pair.

The bad news is the studs for the downpipe flanges are usually broken, and getting them out requires a lot of penetrating oil, a lot of heat, and a lot of patience. New studs are readily available.

Welding has maybe a one percent chance of success. I once had a manifold where the corner was broken out attempting to extract the broken stud, and I had a professional welder fill it in, thinking I would be able to drill and tap a hole. No luck, the welding was as hard as diamond. - Rob Reilly

I seem to recall that Welsh Jaguar offered these manifolds brand new, c/w black porcelain coating not too long ago at a reasonable price - check it out. - Nick Saltarelli 1954 XK120SE OTS 1968 E-type OTS
