Finish on Under-hood PartsThere is a lot of conflicting information as to the proper finish for the various parts that are painted black. Some sources claim that a dull black was all that was ever used, yet others say that some pieces were painted in a gloss finish. Does anybody know what finish such items as: 1) Engine compartment side valance panels; 2) Windshield wiper moter body; 3) Horn relay unit cover; 4) Petrol filler cover shroud, in trunk; 5) Any other black piece thought of. Thanks for responses. - Scott Selbach From my experience: 1. Semi-gloss black; 2. Wrinkle; 3. Cad is what I've seen on the horn relay. I've seen both cad and semi-gloss black on the turn-signal relay. Not sure which is correct. I went with cad. 4. Semi-gloss black; 5. Semi-gloss black. Basicly, the black should not be as glossy as the body, but should not be flat black. Slightly more gloss than a satin finish. Both my cars were this way on unrestored parts. Hope this helps.
