XK120 FHC door pulls

XK120 FHC Door Pulls

No finger pulls were ever put on XK120 FHC's, only on DHC's. I've no idea why, I guess they expected us to pull the door latch handle. - Rob Reilly

Hummm, wonder why my 1953 FHC has them then? I've only owned the car since 1972, 3rd owner, and the wood was never refinished. That is until I got it. - George Badger

Likewise. Have owned 3 at different times; none have had any good way to shut the door from inside. The intention apparently was to provide alternative methods which ultimately lead to the breaking, bending, bowing, tearing or scratching of some other part thus rendering that non-functional for IT's intended purpose. This is known as "the domino effect." Add that to a heavy door and hinges that don't necessarily work either and you have a car that, thank goodness, makes up for it in so many other delightful ways!! - Dick Rowley

My pronouncement on finger pulls was of course based solely on the parts catalogue, which we have seen on previous questions that publication is not always totally accurate. George brings back the ever present problem on originality questions: Were his finger pulls....1. Put on at the factory and not recorded in the FHC parts catalogue? 2. Put on by the dealer at the first buyer's request or because they simply thought the factory forgot them? 3. Added by a subsequent owner? George, the only way to get a "handle" on it would be to check a number of cars made subsequent to yours. If nearly all have them it's probably option 1, if nearly all do not, option 2 or 3. I can tell you that 681114 did not have them. Now as to how it would be viewed by the concours judges......the rest of this thread could probably be strung over to the pub or the concours list. - Rob Reilly - XK120 FHC 679187
