![]() Side Badges: Removal from S1Michael Clancy wrote: I have a 1971 XJ6 and need to replace the rubber behind the Jaguar side badges which are situated on both the left and right hand side of the car, just in front of the front doors. How do I get the badges off in order to do this? I know this sounds simple, but from my cursory inspection of the badges this morning, it may not be. The Series I badges have a pair of plastic studs that protrude through the fender and are held on by hex head speed nuts. To get to them, take off the front wheels, then remove the panel at the rear of the wheel well where it fills between the fender and the outer toe board. I seem to remember less than 1/2 dozen screws to hold the vertical panel in place. You might want to check on a couple of replacement badges first - - the plastic studs tend to get brittle with age... The badges are simply "popped" out - at each end there is a little peg that goes into the body panel (there is a plastic insert there). You can simply insert a thin knife or equiv. btw. the badge and the rubber and slowly start prying the badge off. Start at one end, remove it only very slightly, then go to the other and so on. However, NOTE that the badges are made of plastic which may be VERY brittle - it is very easy to break the badge when taking it out!!! If you can see the pegs, you could try to put some thin oil on them to ease the removal. I did it without, and nearly broke off one of the pegs... ![]()
