![]() Opening a Locked SIII TrunkWilliam F. Stickney wrote: I have a problem with my 1986 Sov xj6 SIII closed trunk now can't open it. Seems like trunk handle does not move a thing. I removed the rear seat but there doesn't appear to be any way to reach the trunk lock. Any ideas? Most appreciated. I know this one! Last year I faced the same problem...you ready for this? Microsurgery! After removing the rear license plate you will need a coat hanger with a very small hooked end. This will enable you to insert the hanger through the right side hole ( for the the bolt for the plate) and draw the actuator rod from the solonoid toward you.( It may be necessary to force the rod away from you to pop it out of the latch arm if the handle will not budge). After you manage to snag the rascal a pair of needle-nose pliers need be inserted to grab the rod and pull UP. This was not a fun job, but can be done. There is absolutely no access to the boot through the back seat. Kev It is also possible to use a spray lubricant like Liquid Wrench and patience to accomplish the same end. I know of three cases where it worked and none where it failed. Basically, you stick the plastic tube into the cylinder, spray the heck out of it, and try to turn the key every few hours over a couple days. Once it opens, try to determine why it did not. If you suspect the lock cylinder, use an electronics cleaner like CRC to flush out the lock, then apply graphite to lubricate. ![]()
