SIII XJ6 Radio Antenna Relay Fix

Hi all.

Here's a quick and dirty fix for those flaky radio antenna relays.

Symptom:

• Radio antenna won't go up sometimes.

Problem:

• Flaky relay in boot. I hit the rear bumper with my fist to shake the relay and the antenna pops up.

Fix:

• Remove boot carpet and false floor
• Locate antenna relay, at rear of boot (towards bumper) on left side. Remove relay. Note colors of wires and terminals they are attached to, if you don't have a wiring diagram. I suggest you get a wiring diagram.
• With relay on work bench, use two small flat screwdrivers to pry the relay circuit board out of the plastic housing. It is not glued or staked together - just snapped. Be careful.
• Inspect for broken or burned components. I had none. Squirt electronic contact cleaner all over everything. I used the stuff available at Radio Shack.
• Let dry overnight or shoot with clean compressed air.
• Assembly is the reverse of removal.

I have had 100% functional antenna since doing this fix. This will not fix a broken mast or motor or sticky mast. Just the flaky relay.
