Scot Goodrich 1967 Jaguar 420 Sedan

1967 Jaguar 420 Sedan

In the Goodrich family for three generations

This car was purchased in July 6 1967 from Lathrop Motors in New London, Ct for $6285 by Maurice F. Goodrich. It was used as a daily driver and for touring. In 1974 it was purchased by his son M. Keith Goodrich who at the time lived in Grand Island, N.Y. It was again used as a daily driver except during the legendary Buffalo winters! In 1978 the family moved to Lake Forest IL. where the car was primarily used for Sunday outings. In 1993 the car was given to Keith's son Scot who did some necessary mechanical work and then in 1996 decided to restore it. Scot started to do the work in November 1996 and finished it in April of 1997. Because of the exceptional condition of the car, most parts are original and were merely refurbished with rebuilds of the engine, transmission, suspension and brakes.

The 420 featured a 4.2 litre engine also used in the XKE which with two carburetors developed 245 hp. It was four wheel power disc brakes, independent four wheel suspension ( also from XKE), Variomatic (variable effort) power steering, alternator with electronic regulator and was similar in mechanical detail to the S type sedan. However, the 420 initiated the four headlight design and grill used in the later XJ6 as well as current sedans. Very few of this model survived of the 976 dispatched to the USA. A total of 9801 420's were manufactured with 2629 left hand drive.
