Though not strictly
Jaguar related, nice screen savers and other electronic gizmos
definately enhance the computer experience. Here are a few I
have found but not necessarily tested. If you want to hunt around for
more automotive information there is
a big list of automotive web
sites at Kelley Blue Book and the
Yahoo!
automotive makes and models directory.
The collector of fine and exotic screen savers -- not just cars --
should take a look at
Screen Saver
Heaven a web site devoted to (only Windows) screen savers.
For those who don't have time to sort through the long list below,
here is my personal list of screen savers in order of
desirability:
These are outstanding ...
while the next are good ...
- Vauxhall
-- especially the BTCC saver.
- Ford Probe -- with a
secret game, but only for Windows.
- Land
Rover -- Camel Trophy and Great Divide screen savers.
but these are very disappointing and uninspired ...
- Saab --
just a spinning bouncing logo.
Acura
"For a limited time you can put an NSX on your desktop for
free" -- your very own
NSX screen
saver. Also see their
QuickTime VR gallery.
Windows and Macintosh.
Alfa
Romeo
Have a look at Alfa Romeo's
Internet
Gadget page for some wallpaper and their spectacular calendar
(you can individulally download jpegs of each page) and their
Film
section for AVI and QuickTime movies.
BMW
Wow, what a web site. There used to be a whole heap of
screen savers and stuff here: you might have a better time finding
them than me.
Chevrolet
While there are no screen savers, there are things to
download on the new
Corvette
including QuickTime movies, QuickTimeVR panoramas, and a ShockWave
trivia game. You can also read about
the ultimate pushrod
V8 engine for the 21st century (sic).
Ford
There is a Windows screen saver for the
Ford Probe that apparently
includes a secret game.
Honda
Another site that has no screen savers, but it does have
QuickTime VR panoramas: take a look at their
models and choose
QTVR from the menu to find them. The Acura site has Integra and NSX
information.
Isuzu
The site's designers have used a rather... umm, errrr...
interesting theme for their site. Have a look in their
Road Kill Cafe for some
downloadable tidbits.
Jaguar
I can't find much at the official Jaguar site, but if you
go to Jaguar
Nederland you'll find THE CAT IS BACK screen saver for
Macintosh and Windows, plus some XK8 images to download.
Lamborghini
Alas, no screen savers. But there is a large selection of
images and
sounds to download.
Land
Rover
The
Land
Rover Screen Savers page features the 1996 Camel Trophy in
Indonesia, and another from the Great Divide Expedition across the
Rockies. Both are available for Windows 3.1, Windows 95 and
Macintosh.
Mercedes-Benz
They seem to have removed their spinning-star screen
saver... no great loss really. We can only hope they replace it with
something more worthy.
Nissan
You've got to get yourself a
Z-car screen
saver. Available for Windows and Macintosh versions. You'll
really like this one... There ought to be one for Jaguars like this
too.
Saab
From Saab USA there is a spinning logo
screen saver for
Windows 95 and Macintosh computers. Not much compared with some of
the others.
Toyota
No screen savers here (at least none I could find) but
something called "Photo Bubbles." (I think they are QuickTime VR
clones.) Download the
Windows or Macintosh
versions.
Vauxhall
Go to the
Download
pages for Vauxhall screen savers and QuickTime movies. Most
screen savers are available for Windows and Macintosh.
Volvo
Another site with no screen savers. There are movies and
images to download for many models including the handsome
C70
convertible.
