Xk120, 140 hub caps

XK120, 140 Hub Caps (Nave Plates)

I guess most owners on this list will have wire wheeled cars, but for those
who do not, can you tell me how your hub caps appear to have been painted
originally? Variations seem to include painted wide band, then painted
inner band, with nothing around the centre JAGUAR; or same with probably
black around the centre JAGUAR, or all chromed, with or without the centre
JAGUAR having a black background. Later cars seems more likely to be
chromed, but not always - see XK140 handbook, page 12, where the 140 hub
cap is shown as painted as above. - Regards, John Elmgreen

My XK140 hubcaps were chromed. My XK120 was missing its hubcaps so can't
help. The emblem itself had black in non-raised areas. - Cleo Bay

671187 has the wide band painted a cream color, the JAGUAR medallion is
black with chrome letters, and the rest of the plate is chrome. The body
color was red. The grab rail, seat brackets, front and rear props,
convertible top brackets, side lights and tail lights are all chrome. -

John, Although my car is a SE, and it has been converted to wire wheels,
the hub caps are all chromed, with the Jaguar letters in a black
background. However, I'm not sure if they're right for a 120 DHC - Regards,
Jose del Pino
John- When I purchased my 120 in 1976, it had been "idle" since 1965 and
had 3 original hubcaps still on it. The caps were painted body color
(bronze) on the outer wide recessed area and also on the inner recessed
area. The raised center section where the "Jaguar" badge is bolted was
chromed. The "Jaguar" emblem was chrome-plated brass with the recessed
areas of the lettering painted black. During my restoration of the car I
was able to reconfirm this point by observing some original hubcaps off and
alloy car and 2 early steel cars. - Jeff Schellinger
