Lucas Distributor Applications
Lucas Distributor Applications

Subject: Lucas Distributor Applications

Here is a list of all standard models '46 - '60 and the Lucas distributor service numbers which are stamped on the outside of the body. There are at least three outer bodies that I am aware of, and three Bakelite caps, leaving out the 4 cylinder. In many cases the differences are internal, such as different weights and springs. I believe nearly all distributor assemblies are interchangeable in all engines, except of course the 4-cyl., but would not necessarily give the optimal performance; and naturally one would not put a DXA6A with manual advance from a Mark IV into a later car. The source is "Jaguar Cars" by C.L. VanDiest c.1962, a general repair manual covering the cars listed below. For some reason the distributors for pushrod cars are only given as D*** numbers and the DOHC are only given as 40*** numbers, though I happen to know the MkV and early XK120 distributors are virtually identical except for the springs.

I have double checked this for my own typing errors, but an error by Vandiest is always a possibility.
