XJ6 Door Seals & NDV Seals

XJ6 Door Seals & NDV Seals

Chris Mortimer, David Q., & Hunt Dabney

Chris Mortimer

Hello Kon,

I sympathise with you as I done this job last summer. The first door I attempted took all of one afternoon but the last one only took half an hour. I was told when I bought the seals that you have to be carefull not to stretch the seals as you work around the door as you might end up with a loop of rubber at one end. I too started with the top and sides and I used a small thin piece of bendy plastic to help feed the rubber into the gripping channel. On the first door I also painted waxoil into the gripper but I think this made life more difficult so I gave up that idea. The best way I found to do the bottom of the seals is to lay on the floor with your head close to the door bottom and bit by bit sqeeze the rubber into the gripper with a piece of plastic, not a screwdriver or anything metal as it will rip the rubber, and gradually work your way along.

It takes time but it can be done.

All the best,

Chris

The NDV seals are available as an aftermarket reproduction from various suppliers, including XK's Unlimited in San Luis Obispo, Ca, USA, and John's Cars in Dallas, TX, USA. I replaced mine, the rubber is decent quality and fit okay; they are not easy to install, because you either cut the bottom to fit around the window post or disassemble the NDV window. Also tricky to get into the channel. They were pricey as well; XK's wanted $150 for the pair, John's Cars $100 (USD). --David Q. 1971 XJ6 SI

Hunt Dabney Offers a Tool to Help Installation

I have posted a fairly detailed procedure including pictures and a tool for very easy door-seal replacement. It's at:
