XKR Filming

XKR Pictures Filming Entrapment

Photos are Copyright © 1998 Michael R. Tomkins and used with permission

Here are three photographs I've scanned . The title of the film is Entrapment and it stars Sean Connery and Catherine Zeta Jones, plus a collection of beautiful deep-blue Jaguar XKRs. The film is currently in production with a scheduled release date of Summer 1999 and a budget of US$80 million, and is being filmed in London and Oxfordshire, England, as well as Hong Kong and Malaysia.

I happened across the set with my camera near London Bridge tube station, right by the banks of the Thames about two weeks ago and despite the best attempts of the film crew to stop me, I managed to rattle off a few photos... They came out a little dark, but considering I took most of them shooting from my waist and guessing wildly, I think they're not too bad, and I'm pleased with them!

The scene being filmed had the Jaguar XKR being chased down the narrow streets by a large black Range Rover or something similar, the whole thing being filmed from cameras mounted on the front of the Jaguar, and a truck containing, I presume, the director and people controlling the cameras etc preceded the lot. There was a lot of screaming of tires, but in reality I'd guesstimate the whole scene was shot at about 15 mph... ;)

Is it Connery, or is it not? "Sean Connery" climbs off the director's truck and walks around the corner for a chat... OK, I can tell you that it wasn't Sean Connery - although it was a very convincing stunt double, and from 30 feet away it was hard to tell the difference. The security was just too low, and when "Sean" walked past me about 6 or 8 feet away I could see that his face wasn't quite right and the eyes were wrong... Jaguar XKR from behind, with broken rear window and "Sean Connery" just visible in the top right of the picture climbing out of the truck used for directing the scene from... There were about 5 or 6 XKRs on the set, some with cameras on the front, some in perfect condition, some with the broken back window, etc... The scene had finished filming about 1-2 minutes before this shot was taken.  Jaguar XKR seen from in front - a few minutes after the scene had finished, the XKR seen here with all the cameras mounted on the bonnet was wheeled backwards down the road, presumably for the shot to be filmed again or maybe to be put away in the cage where the other 4-5 Jaguars were being stored.
