Rear Suspension

Rear Suspension

The rubbers of the radius arms and subframe mounts were wornout completely.
And I wanted to do the rear brakes, the best thing is to remove the Rear Suspension.
Removing is not to difficult, but its very heavy.
Disconnect the drive shaft and brake hose, remove the exhaust pipe and the 8 Bolts
of the rubbermounts and your in the business.I completely removed the brakes and discs.
Cleaned them and painted them with special paint.
The Pintons were corroded so batly the could't be use anymore.
It took me about 3 month to get new ones for a reasonal price (about $152 for 4 stainless steel ones).
And  the new disk were about $70 per pair.
All the rest off the subframe metal cleaned an painted. Then assembling everything again.
For the brakes using new seals, brake lines, pads (handbrake olso).
The handbrake mechanism I reversed the part where the cable fits on (there olmost identical)
The rubbers of the radius arms removed and replaced. You need a hydrolic press the get them in.
For installing the Subframe I made a low trolly to drive it under the car.
Managed to refit the thing, and reconnecting the drive shaft and a new brakehose.

Old                                         Rusty Discs
Last winter I had to remove the REAR again.
The oilseal on the lefthand site of the diff was leaking.
So the rear brake was covered with oil and not working anymore.
After 1 day 1 had the outputshaft on the workbench.
But had to bring it to A jaguar specialist, it was stuck.
They had to use a 10tons highdrolic press to remove the shaft.
they replaced the bearings want the seal.
This winter another job on the rear, a U-joint on the RH-site
has broken down.
