Johannes Hoech 1967 420G I know your site through Clarence Novak, another Big Saloon owner near here, and his example inspired me to write to you. Please feel free to include the attached pictures or our story on your site.

We live near San Francisco and own a 1967 420G. That same year I had seen an almost identical 420G as a boy at the Frankfurt Autoshow. I remember dissappearing into the cavernous rear, pulling out the tables, and thinking to myself "Oh, what luxury!".

Well, after over 10 years of searching for a good specimen, we finally bought our car in 1998. The owner had parked it on the street with a "for sale" sign on it, believe it or not. It drove and optically was in pretty good shape, unlike most Mark X or 420G I had looked at over the years. So it became ours.

Since then we've had it mechanically completely overhauled and restored, the most recent project having been an engine bay restoration and rebuilding of the motor. After a long search, I was even able to obtain the correct viscous coupling (aka fan clutch over here in the US) at Jaguar Heaven in Stockton, CA! The car now runs beautifully, and (almost) everything in it works.

The upcoming projects for the next couple of years will be the interior restoration (the seat cushions already having been replaced), and finally a return to the original two-tone exterior paint job. I mostly use the car for business - I own a design and consulting business - and the car regularly is a conversation piece. But then, on occasion the whole family enjoys the car along the Pacific or up in the wine country; that'll make great memories for my children on day.
