The New XK

History of the Region

The region was originally founded in 1991. The story began shortly after Jim Colville purchased his Series II XJ6. Jim did not know how to restore the car so he asked around and he was advised to Join the Jaguar Enthusiast Club. When he started reading the Jaguar Enthusiast club magazine he thought there might be a need for a Glasgow region. He contacted the area liaison person at that time and assistance was duly rendered. The Club gave Jim a note of all the signed up members in his area and off he went. Jim then sent out 80 letters inviting them to form a Regional Club and received three replies. The four founding members are therefore: Ken Gorman, Chris Magnus, Ken Rae and Jim Colville.

The first meeting was held in the Burnside Hotel in Rutherglen and the four members each took a turn with the expenses to get the club off the ground.

1 year later the club was 12 members strong and felt confident enough to arrange to attend Shows and began to produce a quarterly news letter.
