Mon, 27 Oct 1997 All quiet on Channel IX - The II needs tlc My 85yr old mother came to stay for the long weekend. The weather was great so we decided to take the two old girls out for a jaunt. We checked the oil etc etc, pushed the button, warmed her up and away we went - all went well. Nothing went wrong. (Perhaps I shouldn't be saying this!). We cruised the highways and byways very gracefully, had three people wave at us and still nothing went wrong. The brakes feel a little dead though - shall I start all over again with it? I am loath to tinker with her as she is going so well. We need another rally so we can get nervous and HAVE to fix the problems! Maybe I'll just start worrying about the II - the steering box is cream-crackered - all the adjustment has been taken up and the man at the testing station said 6 months ago "you'll need a new one in 6 months time" - - It is now six months time. What shall I do with the steering box? - a refurbished one? - take the old one apart and 'fix it' myself? And also on the list is one front wheel bearing (I suppose now that one has gone, the other will need doing!). I see the need for a bearing puller - is replacing the bearing(s) a hassle? Any ideas guys - or is it a job "for the expert"? Chris & Ragnar - good to see the story-telling tradition continuing - and it is helpful to know that the Northern hemisphere has found it's way into Autumn, we down South here reckoned you guys were hogging all the sun up there... *-------------------* Neil & John MkIX 1960 - atta girl! ------------------------------
