Channel IX - We are LEGAL!

The sun shone and the Gods smiled today but they did forget to tell me to take my cheque book to the Lord High Executioner's palace... The handbrake passed with flying colours (as it should have done first time, if I had taken the time and trouble originally)

But, having got the certificate I couldn't pay for the licence plates!!! A mere delay though. We are legal at last. HOORAY!

Today was spent fixing the voltage regulator points (no charging, ammeter flickering all over the place, battery going flat; Replacing the flasher unit (we are in disgrace - the old girl winced when I installed the Indonesian-made unit) But now we have lovely flashing green arrows on the tacho.

Seatbelts? - yep they're all fixed up good in the cigar lighter mounts - we have had to leave out the cigar lighter things though - for the sake of neatness and the sake of the belts catching on the plug. If you need explicit directions on how to mount your belts in the IX and keep your pillar cappings - talk to me (been there, done that!)

The radiator is now fully polished and my knuckles fully scraped. The sidelight pods have had their innards cleaned out - 37 years worth of crud and mould - the rubber grommets had worn out and let water leak in. Both lights now glow - but it is a shame about the tell-tales - I shall go back in the postings - there was heaps of chat about them not so long ago - on the IX they are clear as opposed to the red ones on our II.

The horn repair has been intermittently successful - a "toot - toot" occasionally now sounds like a "peep - peep".

I've mounted the rally ID plate on the front number plate frame and John has polished up the wicker basket - we simply *must* get the champagne glasses, chicken in apsic, cucumber sandwiches (no crusts!), Orange Pekoe tea and Primus Stove ready for the journey. Drat! - I forgot to get a bag of fillums for the camera. on the shopping list.

Oh yes, Jaguar NZ are to produce a video of the rally - (only $25) - I sent off the form but told them that the IX has got to be in the movie!

A day of titivating ahead for us - and then an early start on Sunday. Happy motoring...
