If you are new to the world of Jaguar, you need to know that the XJ6 model name has been used since 1968 so the car has changed quite a bit over the year. This section covers what is known as the XJ40, launched in 1986 (1987 for North America) as a fully redesigned version of the XJ saloon. It's interesting to note that the older style XJ would remain in production as the XJ12 until 1993 (depending on markets).

For details on the history of the XJ6 from the first 1968 Series 1 to the XJ40, please read our XJ model guide

In 1995, the XJ40 would be replaced by what some felt was a more traditional looking Jaguar, still carrying the XJ badge and known as the X300 itself replaced in 1998 by the XJ8 (see the X300 section for information on these cars...)

If you are looking for information on pre 86/87 XJ6s, please go to the XJ Lovers (1968 - 1986/87 cars); for the later XJs please visit the X300/X308 section

Our E-mail based discussion lists represent the foundation of Jag-Lovers and often the best source of help; we also offer a Web  based interface to the mailing list with the Jag Lovers Forums and their database of hundred of thousands of posts.

The Web site and its various sections are here to provide additional services to supplement the lists and forums. If you own one of the cars covered here, we strongly recommend that you join the XJ40 list or forum as you will receive a lot of information along with help ( technical or moral support...) from fellow Jag Lovers. Jag Lovers is a  non commercial site run by volunteers, service is free and the text based mail format makes it safe from viruses.
