Wiper System

Wiper system XJS... XJ6 differs slightly .....editor.

  1. Remove the wiper arms- if stuck,.... then use a brake spoon to help removal
  2. Unbolt the actuators and hammer them down partially with a rubber mallet
  3. Remove the fresh air grill from the car
  4. Remove the washer hose and wires from the grill assembly
  5. Unbolt the motor and bars from the grill
  6. Disconnect the actuators and tubes from the motor assembly
  7. Disassemble the actuators and remove the plastic gears from the actuator housings (2)
  8. Remove all sliding parts and the armature and the main plastic gear
  1. CLEAN ALL PARTS OF GREASE
  2. TUBES, CABLE, MAIN PLASTIC GEAR, PLASTIC GEARS AND ACTUATOR HOUSINGS (2)
  • Now lube all parts with Permatex Superlube or any brand of dry film lube

    ASSEMBLY

    1. Install new brushes plate onto the motor..........it is helpful to have a second person because there are 3 brushes. ( I got a new brush plate from jag dealer)
    2. Install the plastic gears into the actuator housings (2
    3. Reverse the actuators 180 degrees so that they are now facing the front of the grill and car
    4. Position the tubes onto the motor-you may find that they are too short now
    5. carefully bend the tubes in a bench a little at a time until the actuators fall into the grill holes
    6. After assembly of the system but before installation onto the grill make sure that there is a plastic rain shield on the motor.
    7.
    8. ( in kirbys book, he states that you can use a one gallon jug in place of the factory unit.....Dealer cost is above $40.00. He also states, that you should grind a small drain hole at the bottom of the motor.
    9. Only a slight prying on the backside of the grill will allow the completed assembly to drop into place on the car)....be careful of the rubber studs.....

??? PROBLEMS ???......... That might, develop....!

After assembly but before installation of wiper arms check to see if the arms park on the correct sidE.......if incorrect........ then disassemble the motor and reverse the steel plate on the plastic gear

IF THE WIPER SPEEDS ARE BACKWARDS THEN REVERSE THE RED AND YELLOW WIRES ON THE MOTOR HOUSING
